NO CLASS / DARK AGES

NO CLASS and DARK AGES
Wednesday, August 1st, 3am - 6am
on
Distort Jersey City with Deed Runlea

This week on Distort Jersey City we have a split set from the two hardest bands from Kansas City, Missouri, No Class and Dark Ages. Boredom tends to produce the best hardcore punk... Both bands have a similar vibe, while Dark Ages tends to be a little catchier while No Class tends to be really, really ignorant. Recommended for fans of bashing your head against a wall repeatedly and loud, abrasive hardcore. Dark Ages are on Sorry State Records and No Class are on Deranged Records. Tired, bored, angry and violent. Be prepared to uncontrollably mosh your bedroom, car, cubicle, sidewalk, or wherever you may be living out the bleak monotony of your mortal existence.

Distort California X

California X
Wednesday, July 18th, 3am - 6am
on Distort Jersey City with Deed Runlea

This week we get a visit from California X hailing from Western Massachusetts. With a single out and a 12 inch on the way, we get a taste of a fresh as hell rock and roll band that I'm sure we are only going to keep hearing. Cali X play fuzzed out, crunchy guitar rock with super catchy riffs and vocals. They kind of sound like if Milk Music lived on the east coast and never played hacky sack, ever. Tune in for five tracks of excellent punk rock coming out of one of the coolest spots in America for true underground music.

+ exclusive new tracks from ACID PROBLEM and SHOXX and all the regular hot fresh shit.

Rational Animals WFMU Tonight

Wednesday, June 27th, 3am - 6am: Rational Animals
We get a visit from Rational Animals of Rochester NY (and Brooklyn College), grooving out an extended punk rock and roll onslaught in the WFMU studios. They might be sick of the comparison, but its hard not to notice the My War era Black Flag worship pumping through their Genny Original soaked fingers. Rocking. Noodling. Driving. Cross Eyed Delight. Don't even bother running a vegan straight edge show space and trying to ban Rational Animals from performing because they sprayed a can of beer all over your apartment, because you will like them so much that you change your mind and have them back over and over again. And put out their records on Katorga Works. Yeah! Woo! Yeaaaah! Get into it.

Tonight!

Adam Whites

http://icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com/2012/06/dipers-shit-house-7.html

NYC's Dipers is a band that always defied my expectations. I figured, based on their name, that they would be a shitty parody band of some sort. Surprise! They are actually a hardcore band, not some stupid joke punk band. Well, they do sort of exist as a half-joke band, but their lyrics, while almost always sophomoric, still pack legit venom to the sarcastic-yet-astute social critiques, which is helped by the almost tough vocal delivery of NYC superstar Reed. Sometimes, I find said lyrics to be somewhat annoying ("Courtesy Flush"), but, as in the case of "Fattest Fan," I actually found myself laughing out loud the first time I heard it...and I hate fun! The music is also surprisingly solid and the riffs really make this thing. If their pit wasn't generally filled with whack-ass art school dropouts, I'd actually considering hitting it!

Terminal Escape is the best blog

Smart and snarky hardcore from New York City makes another visit to The Escape, one side live and one set of superb studio tracks this time around. "2 Chill 2 Drill" is a masterful piece of restraint, while the rest of the jams on the studio side are packed with addictive and feisty hardcore punk rock - just the way you (should) like it. The live side is full of tasty treats like "Drinking And Doing Drugs While Texting And Driving" and "Light My Farts" but don't let the song titles fool you - these kids mean fukkn business. Great shit, need to go back to New York so I can see them.

Bad Noids on Distort Jersey City

BAD NOIDS
Thursday (Wed overnight) May 10 3am-6am
on Distort Jersey City with Deed Runlea
From the town that brought you 9 Shocks Terror, H100s and Inmates, the new school of Cleveland Ohio hardcore punk is here with Bad Noids. On tour with the 4th pressings of their fantastic EP, Bad Noids pay us a visit for a live set and interview in the WFMU studios. Simple, anthemic, catchy punk rock for simple, anthemic, catchy people. Did I mention that their singer Oddjob lights his hair on fire while playing? Did I also mention that they have a harmonica solo that might be even better than Gorilla Biscuits? A lot of bands wish they were from Cleveland, others actually are. Up the gamma toaster punks.

Raw Nerve + Chaos in Tejas Preview

Raw Nerve + Chaos in Tejas Preview
Thursday, April 26th, 3am - 6am
on Distort Jersey City with Deed Runlea
91.1fm NYC/NJ and 90.1fm Hudson Valley

Chicago's Raw Nerve gasp their final breaths as they deliver a set of complete chaos and fury live in the WFMU studios. Recorded Easter Sunday the day of their last NYC show and one week before the band calls it quits, our listeners get to posthumously relive the magic one last time after their final performance on April 14 in Chicago with SQRM, Vile Gash, Manipulation, and Culo. This set spans their recorded output on the cult favorite Youth Attack Records, and captures Raw Nerve as one of the most brutally intense live hardcore bands of recent years. Dark, disorienting, violent, ugly, and ripping fast hardcore for the bold and adventurous listener. "Don't cry for me, I'm already dead." -Barney Gumble.

Later, we speak with Timmy Hefner, curator of the mighty Chaos In Tejas festival. In its eight year, this annual punk fest held in Austin TX hosts some of the most exiting names in underground music from all over the country and world. Performing this year are bands like Sham 69, Moss Icon, Nasum, The Clean, Saint Vitus, Dropdead, Midnight, Iceage, Ted Leo, Ringworm, The Mob, Toys That Kill, No Age, Screaming Females, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments and Big Freedia, as well as too many solid American DIY hardcore acts to list. We hear about the history and current state of Chaos, the DIY punk scene in Austin, and what Timmy carries in his punk pouch, as well as a mixtape of acts from this year. May 31 through June 2, 2012 Austin.

NUDE BEACH on Distort Jersey City

NUDE BEACH
Thursday (Wed overnight) April 5 3am-6am
on Distort Jersey City

Brooklyn pop punk rock n roll party heroes NUDE BEACH blast out a ripping set for your aural pleasure. Like if you mixed THE JAM, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and TOM PETTY, but made them a punk band headlining shows every other week at Death By Audio. Members of CHAIN WALLET, GUADALUPE, RELIGIOUS KNIVES, PRETTY WILD, THE FISH, PUNKS ON MARS, and too many other bands. This is a not to be missed set for the die-hards and nubes alike, drawing heavily on their brand new album Nude Beach II out on Nude Beach Records, and we get to catch the band right after 11 days in the USA and Canada with THE MEN. This band is the soundtrack to the last Saturday night of the end of the world (January 15, 2012 if you're keeping track). Where will you be partying?

First GCITW/SS Split Review

Is New York the “Greatest City in the World?” The intuitive answer is no; it’s rat-infested, dirty, and overcrowded–mostly with miserable and/or crazy people. At the same time, it somehow manages to be one of the bourgiest cities on Earth, where food, rent, beer, and weed cost more than almost any other city on Earth. In spite (or perhaps as a result) of all this, New York remains the greatest city for one reason: not only did it invent punk, but it has remarkably remained its standard-bearer through decades of international reformulation.
Today’s punk scene, lead by the Raw and Bung punx, is thriving in a big way and it’s awesome to have zines like this one and New York Rules to keep tabs on what’s up in the city and beyond. GCITW, written primarily by a dude with the presumably spoonerist moniker Deed Runlea, features four band interviews, most notably with the DOs (Kira Roessler fromBlack Flag and Mike Watt from Minutemen) and Boston’s Night Birds, a cooking page on how to cook with dried beans, a Seinfeld fan fucktion, and an excellent op-ed on the editor’s love/hate relationship with Occupy Wall Street. Overall the zine has a voice and sense of humor all its own–definitely not ‘PC’ but honest and raw and packing the kind of punk snot one should expect from a zine whose cover is a chain-strapped boot preparing to stomp on the millionaire admins of the newly minted Brooklyn Nets.
Denver’s Shit Sheet is all written by Mike Kneally of Albany Hardcore fame. Most of the content is a lenghty review of the new Husker Du book and an even lengthier interview with Mike’s favorite band, Leatherface. The Du review, littered with personal anecdotes and stories about the band he was disappointed were absent from the text, was pretty entertaining although irritatingly formatted into thin strips of white-on-black text that were sometimes upside down or cut lenghtwise. Was this design choice a failed experiment or DIY gone mad? Either way, the Leatherface interview’s more standardized lay out was a graphic breath of fresh air, although it could have been edited to be far more concise. I also would have liked to hear more scene-reportage about Denver, even though it is no candidate for best city in the world.
You can get the zine online here for just $2. I’m sure they also sell it at Academy.
Also check out Deed’s record label Shit Hawk Punks and his excellent show on Newtown RadioCrust Never Sleeps.

Little Italy Download/Review on Terminal Escape

I must like that STARING PROBLEM tape a lot, because I keep referencing it. This time the nod comes not from another Midwest band but from some killer New Yorkers called LITTLE ITALY. Take those breathy female vocals and set them to raunchier and more feisty music...like our Carbondale heroes mixed with a punked out Jon Spencer. Whatever the nonsensical descriptors, the shit fukkn rules.

I think they might even be doing a new tape soon, or something. Runnin' down a dream.
